Rock And Roll Dead

As of late I have heard a lot of talk about how rock and roll has died or is dying. So, is rock and roll dead? I don't believe that to be the case at all. If you look at all the bands that sell out large football stadiums bringing in 60,000-80,000 people it's bands like The Rolling Stones, U2, Dave Matthews Band, Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. If rock and roll was dead would this be happening?

This is not a knock on today's music such as hip hop, country and pop music, who today hold the main stage. However, they still do not bring in the 65,000 fans into a stadium. The artists of today's mainstream music have made their niche in the industry, no doubt about it, and good for them. I'm sure they worked hard to get where they are at. But, if you go through the USA today, every major city has at least one classic rock station, some cities even have two.

Again, if rock and roll or classic rock were dead would this be happening? There must be a market for it. And furthermore if you go to these rock concerts you will see teenagers standing shoulder to shoulder with people in there 40s, 50s, and even their 60s so it's not like it is just old people going to see theses acts, it's younger people who love this music as well.

Why the music industry has tried to kill such a huge market is beyond me. Maybe it's time they take notice and listen to the listeners of music for a change. Maybe they've been in a cubical for too long and need to get out more often and see what common people really like, instead of trying to give us packaged pop music that only twelve year olds might enjoy. But that's okay with me. Rock and roll is a force to be reckoned with. It defies generations, actually, it brings generations together, unlike any other genre of music. Go to a rock concert and see the diversity of ages. To me it's an affirmation that rock and roll will never die!

Here's a few facts: In 2011, 3 of the top 5 grossing concert tours went to rock and rollers (U2, Bon Jovi and Roger Waters) for a combined gross of over $600 million! Add the other rockers to round out the top 25 of the year: The Eagles, Journey, Iron Maiden and Neil Diamond and rock and roll grossed close to $800 million in tours alone. That's far from dead if you ask me.

So, if you're thinking rock and roll is dead, just think about those numbers. Rock and roll may not be in the spotlight but it's influence will be felt for ever in the annals of music history. Believe it or not, you can't have Justin Bieber without Jimi Hendrix. Rock and roll paved the way for everything that came after. It forever changed the way we thought about music, politics, society and ourselves. That's why I started a classic rock blog, to keep the spirit of rock and roll alive and hopefully to turn on generations to come about the true meaning of rock and roll!

Indonesian Rock N' Roll

God Bless is an Indonesian rock band founded in 1973 by Ahmad Albar, Jockie Soerjoprajogo, Fuad Hassan, Donny Fattah, and Ludwig Lemans. It continues to be active and has received several awards from the Indonesian music industry.

God Bless was founded by Ahmad Albar (vocals), Jockie Soerjoprajogo (keyboard), Fuad Hassan (drums), Donny Fattah (bass), and Ludwig Lemans (guitar) in 1973. They had their first concert on 5 May 1973 at Taman Ismail Marzuki, which was followed on 16 August with the Summer 28 concert, the first (and, as of 2004, largest) open air concert in Indonesia. During that period they also played at the Jakarta Fair, held near the National Monument. That same year the band acted in Ambisi (Ambition); Lemans left the band not long after to return to the Netherlands.

In 1975 the band opened for British rock band Deep Purple when the latter played in Jakarta. They released their first album, Huma di Atas Bukit (House on the Hill), the following year. The titular song for the progressive rock album, an adaptation of "Firth Of Fifth", from Genesis' 1973 album Selling England by the Pound, went on to be used as the theme song to Sjumadjaja's film Laila Majenun (Laila is Possessed).

Four years later, God Bless released Cermin (Mirror), which included more ballads and showed influences from Deep Purple and Van Halen; Abadi Soesman contributed a bit. The band, in an off-again on-again state for the next several years, released their third album, Semut Hitam (Black Ants) in 1988; the album went on to be their most successful. This was followed by Raksasa (Monster; 1989), and Apa Kabar? (What's Up?; 1997).

God Bless performed a "duel" with Padi on 9 November 2011, a band twenty years their younger; held in the Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta, the duel was witnessed by over 200 people, greater than the capacity of the venue. In 2003 Jockie left the group; initially reported as being over creative differences, in October 2011 Jockie revealed that it was after a fight over Albar's drug habits. Jockie, once a drug user himself, was asked to tell Albar to stop using drugs; in response, Albar reportedly pulled a gun on him. Jockie was soon replaced by Abadi Soesman. Guitarist Ian Antono confirmed that a pistol was involved, but he thought it could be a toy; he stated that the argument flared up when Jockie insulted Albar's family.

In 2007, Yaya Moekito joined the band as a drummer. After Albar was imprisoned for drug possession in November 2007 and paroled in July 2008, in mid 2009, God Bless played at the Jakarta Fair and released another album, 36th. In late 2009 the band was pictured on the cover of Rolling Stone Indonesia. The following year, the band went on a cross-country tour, playing in nine cities and accompanied by Nidji, Gigi, Andra and The BackBone, and Naif. The band also played in the 2010 Djakarta Artmosphere festival.

On 14 June 2011, God Bless performed at the Hard Rock Cafe with Jibriel to celebrate founder's day; the latter group consists of two of Albar's sons, one of Jockie's, one of Antono's, and Albar's nephew Bagoes. In July, the band played at the Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The following month, from 22 to 24 July 2011, the band performed at the InterMusic Java Rockin' Land alongside The Cranberries and Neon Trees.[13] On 20 October 2011 Jockie posted on his Facebook wall that he was upset that the band continued to play songs written by him without paying royalties.

As is known, alternative band Frente is sufficient to be an idol since its foundation in 1991. However, their success did not last long. Fronted band Angie Hart et al decided disbanded in 1996. But do not just stop there, Frente reunion could go back and gigging around 2004 to 2005. And on 28 November 2010, the Frente recorded reunion gig at the Punters Club, Corner Hotel, Australia.

Mmm .. Will the Frente can repeat their success at work on stage? Just wait for the appearance of two albums titled owner Marvin SHAPE THE ALBUM and this event Rockin Java Land 2011!

History of Guns N' Roses

The group was formed in early 1985 by Hollywood Rose members Axl Rose (vocals) and Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), L.A. Guns members Tracii Guns (lead guitar), Ole Beich (bass) and Rob Gardner (drums).[10] The new band created its name by combining two of the group members' names. After only a short time (several reports indicate only 2 or 3 gigs were played with Guns, Beich & Gardner), bassist Ole Beich was replaced by Duff McKagan while Tracii Guns' lack of attendance at rehearsals led to his replacement by Slash.

Slash had played with McKagan in Road Crew and with Stradlin during a short stint in Hollywood Rose. The new line-up came together quickly, but shortly before embarking on a short, rather disorganized tour from Sacramento, California, to Duff's home town of Seattle, Washington, drummer Rob Gardner quit and was replaced by Slash's close friend Steven Adler. The band, which continued to be called Guns N' Roses even after the departure of Tracii Guns, established its first stable line up on the so-called "Hell Tour". In an interview, Slash stated, "That [trip to Seattle] is really what cemented the band" and established its chemistry.

Guns N' Roses Feel Rock And Roll

Guns N' Roses (sometimes abbreviated as G N' R or GnR) is an American hard rock band. The band formed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, in 1985. Led by frontman and co-founder Axl Rose, the band has released six studio albums, three EPs, and one live album while going through numerous line-up changes and controversies since its formation. The current lineup comprises lead vocalist and pianist Axl Rose, lead guitarists Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and DJ Ashba, rhythm guitarist Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists and backing vocalists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.

Guns N' Roses' mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s years have been described by individuals in the music industry as the period in which "they brought forth a hedonistic rebelliousness and revived the punk attitude-driven hard rock scene, reminiscent of the early Rolling Stones.". This lineup primarily consisted of lead vocalist Axl Rose, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin, lead guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler. Keyboardist Dizzy Reed was introduced in 1990, and drummer Matt Sorum and rhythm guitarist Gilby Clarke replaced Adler and Stradlin during the Use Your Illusion Tour.

Pearce Quesenberry is a 13-year-od who was featured in the 2008 Stand Up To Cancer broadcast, as she was battling brain cancer.  Pearce is now cancer-free, and will participate in this year’s broadcast as a survivor.



The broadcast is dedicated to the 12 million U.S. cancer survivors, illustrating how groundbreaking research can change the tide in the fight against the disease.  Updates will be provided on the work of the five Stand Up To Cancer Dream Teams, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, will report on other new medical developments.



SU2C’s star-studded television special builds continuing public support and donations for cutting-edge cancer research that translates at a rapid pace from the laboratory to treatments and technologies benefitting patients. One hundred percent of all donations received from the public will go directly to cancer research. Viewers will have the ability to donate via a dedicated phone line, the web, or through text.



The 2008 telecast helped raise over $100 million. To date five multi-disciplinary “Dream Teams” of researchers from more than 50 institutions, as well as 13 young innovative scientists who are undertaking high-risk yet potentially high-reward projects have received SU2C funding. SU2C brings together these scientists from different disciplines across various institutions to work collaboratively, rather than competitively, at a critical time in the field of cancer research. The Rock Hall Focuses on Women Who Rock This Month

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has planned a month-long tribute to some of the women, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees, who redefined the rules in music and in the music industry.

Throughout the month, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame education department will offer a special Women’s History Month class entitled “It’s My Party:” Women and the Art of Songwriting, as part of its interdisciplinary educational program, Rockin’ the Schools. Students will learn that although the music industry has typically been male dominated, many women have become successful record label owners, songwriters, performers, and producers. In celebration of Women’s History Month, students will examine how women songwriters have shaped rock and roll history with their memorable lyrics, singable melodies and powerful arrangements. Learn about songs by award-winning songwriters such as Ellie Greenwich, Carole King, Patti Smith, Madonna, Queen Latifah and Alicia Keys. A special Women’s History Month Teachers Rock will address the challenges of designing lessons that include women and their participation in and contributions to popular music and, more broadly, to American history. Rock Hall educators, Lauren Onkey and Kathryn Metz, will discuss how they developed a class about women and the business and art of songwriting and the challenges that they met in creating the course. Using women and the art and business of songwriting as a framework, Lauren and Kathryn will focus on song production before and during the initial years of rock and roll as well as on the emergence of the singer-songwriter across the genres, including folk, R&B, and hip-hop.

From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits featuring Dusty Street

Dusty Street, the first female radio deejay on the West Coast, began her career in radio broadcasting in 1967 at KMPX in San Francisco before switching to KSAN in 1969. Street worked at the progressive rock radio station for the next 10 years until she moved to Los Angeles and joined the now-infamous rock radio station, KROQ. Throughout her time there, KROQ helped to pave the way in breaking model punk and new wave bands and established “Rock of the Eighties,” highlighting such artists as Blondie, Talking Heads, the Rolling Stones and more.

Street switched formats to classic rock at KLSX in Los Angeles for several years before heading to Las Vegas’ 97.1 The Point. However, her influence at KROQ did not go on without notice as she was offered to host Sirius Satellite Radio’s First Wave. Since 2005, she has been the host of Sirius XM’s Classic Vinyl radio, which broadcasts live from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s Allan Freed Studio Monday through Thursdays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. EST. Street also hosts an internet radio show called The Fly Low Show at KYOUradio.com.

Members and visitors will have the opportunity to hear Street’s incredible stories firsthand in a discussion led by Jason Hanley, director of education at the Rock Hall. Questions will be taken from the audience at the end of the interview.

This event is part of the series From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits, a groundbreaking Rock Hall program that shines the spotlight on the people whose contributions to the rock and roll art form are often as powerful as those of the artists themselves.

Rock and Roll Night School Wednesday, March 25 7:00 p.m. Fourth Floor Theater Rock and Roll Night School is a monthly series of educational, discussion-based night classes offered free of charge. Rock Hall educators Lauren Onkey and Jason Hanley will lead this month’s class, which will focus on 2009 Hall of Fame Inductee Wanda Jackson. Wanda Jackson is an American rockabilly and country music singer who began recording in the mid-50s. She was one of the first female rockabilly singers to come to popularity during the 1950s. She mixed regular country music material with fast-moving rockabilly music, often cutting each side of a record with a different type of music. Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. Peace is signified by both parties making a two-finger peace sign. Love is signified by both parties forming a heart, with the main fingers forming the upper curve and the thumbs touching to form the bottom tip.

In addition, lectures, films, panel discussions and performances are scheduled throughout the year.

Several times a year, the Museum mounts temporary exhibitions, including everything from block-buster shows to intimate photography displays. All events are subject to change.
